Benefits of Therapeutic Massage
In addition to helping combat stress and enhance relaxation, therapeutic massage can provide relief from muscle aches and pains, encourage greater ease of movement, provide quicker recovery from athletic activity, and increase overall body awareness.
Deep Tissue & Sports Massage
Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue that often cause chronic pain and tension. Chronic tension can be caused by adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.
Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore a greater range of movement. The therapist may use direct static pressure and/or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.
Oncology Massage
Massage for people who have cancer and who are undergoing treatment can be extremely beneficial and relaxing during a stressful time. This work is also effective for post-cancer patients. If you have cancer or a history of cancer, please inquire by phone or email to assess whether massage is right for you.
Soft Tissue Injury
This is a specific manual therapy for soft tissue injuries. This work focuses on deeper structures to alleviate the pain caused by inflammation of overworked or strained fibers. If you are suffering from an injury, please inquire about this type of massage treatment.
Prenatal/Postpartum Massage
Massage can be a wonderful complement to self-care during and after pregnancy. Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage — to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, increase circulation and mobility, and just make you feel relaxed and cared for. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women. Prenatal massage can help reduce some of the physical and emotional stress that can accompany pregnancy. Benefits can include relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofascial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs as well as reducing swelling and enhancing the pliability of the skin and underlying tissue. Continuing regular massage following pregnancy can support new mothers with the physical and emotional strains of mothering.
